What's in a Name?

In Spanish, "camino" is the word for walkway or road; "merced" is the word for mercy. The name Camino Merced suggests the "way of mercy" and reminds us of the prophet Micah's statement regarding what the Lord expects of his people -- "To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)

You First Loved Us

We love you, Lord,
Because you first loved us.
We serve you, Lord,
Because you first served us.
You left the Father's glory above,
Laid down your life
Because of your love.

We love you, Lord,
Because you first loved us.
We serve you, Lord,
Because you first served us.
Our love proves true
When we obey,

Cornerstone

©2001 Cheryl A. B. Boydston
CCLI Song #4551605
Scripture Reference: Psalm 118:22-23; Matthew 21:42
Theme: The Church
Key: C
Mood/Tempo: upbeat

Cornerstone was written as we were preparing to move into our new building. We had been meeting in the cafeteria of a junior high school for 6+ years, and it was indeed "marvelous in our eyes" (Matthew 21:42) to have a home for worship and ministry. At the same time, we realized that the church is never the building, it is the people, the "living church," and that we must seek continually be built together in order to bring honor to the name of the Lord.

Besides being appropriate for the dedication of a church building, this song can be used as an offering song or as a response when the theme of the service is the Church and church unity.

Verse 1
Build your church, O Lord.
Build your church, O Lord.
Build us, Lord God Almighty,
As you promised through your prophets;
Build us into a holy dwelling,
Bringing honor to your name.

Chorus
The stone that the builders rejected
Is now the chief cornerstone,
And it is marvelous in our eyes,
Built by the Lord alone.

Verse 2
Build your church, O Lord.
Build your church, O Lord.
Build us, Lord Jesus Christ,
Laid upon your sure foundation;
Build us into a household of faith,
Bringing honor to your name.

Chorus

Verse 3
Build your church, O Lord.
Build your church, O Lord.
Build us, Holy Spirit,
Through your power and your presence;
Build us into a living church,
Bringing honor to your name.
